About Supported Image File Formats

The following table shows the supported image image formats that you can use in your layout files.

Supported Image File Formats
Extension Name Description
BMP Windows bitmap file Many Windows-based applications (for example, Microsoft Paint) support the BMP format. Depending on the software and the image resolution, BMP files might not scale well, especially if you scale an image greater than 100%. You can also use RLE files (compressed BMP files).
JPG Joint Photographic Experts Group A format that is commonly used in photography.
GIF Graphics Interchange Format A format that has widespread usage on the World Wide Web.
PCX Z-Soft Paintbrush format A once-common DOS and Windows bitmap file format.
TIF Tagged Image File Format A format that was developed by Aldus and HP. Many scanners and graphics packages support the TIF format. TIF can present some compatibility problems if customized by a manufacturer. DAZzle does not support TIFF gray scale images or TIFF files compressed with the FAX option.
WMF Windows Metafile A Windows-based drawing format that use Microsoft Windows drawing commands, instead of a bitmap image. These files scale very well. You can also use CLP files created from the Clipboard using the WMF option.
