About Word Processing File Options

The Word Processing File Options dialog box appears after selecting a word processing plain text file for printing or verifying a list of addresses (Print List or Dial-A-ZIP list). Use the options in this dialog box to interpret the data fields in the file. DAZzle stores all of the options selected in this dialog box so that the next time you use this file, you do not need to reselect all of the options. (The settings are stored by filename, so if you create this file from another application, use the same filename each time.)

If the sample address is not correct, then there is a problem with the format of your list file. Make sure that your list file meets the following requirements:

• Each line of the file should contain only one line of the address.
• There cannot be any special formatting characters, such as fonts or alignment, in the file.
• Each address must be separated by either a blank line or a page break.

• Note: Word processing list files must be plain text files. You cannot use list files stored in the special format of your word processor. If you have a list file in your word processor format, save the list as an ASCII or plain text file. See your word processor's instructions for instructions on how to save a file as ASCII or plain text. (Often in word processors, the File > Save As command lets you save the file as plain text.)

Word processing file options include:

First Record Contains Field Names ...MORE

If the list file was created by another application that creates a record listing the field names (and not data) as the first record, then select this check box. DAZzle skips this first record when printing or verifying the list if this option is selected.

Records end with Page Break ...MORE

All records (addresses) must be separated by either a blank line or a page break. If the text file you are using does not contain page breaks, do not select the Records end with Page Break check box.

Sample Address ...MORE

The sample address is displayed so that you can see the effects of all of the options selected. The sample address shows how the first record in the file appears on the envelope.
