Getting Started: About Using Internet Postage
The following are general postal guidelines for using Internet postage.
Important! For the most up-to-date and complete domestic and international mailing information, see the USPS website, the USPS Postal Explorer website, or your USPS postal representative.
- Must Be Mailed on Postmark Date.
...MORE Whenever you print postage, you are printing the postmark date as well. The US Postal Service requires that you send the mail on the postmark date. If you are printing shipping labels or envelopes to send at a later date, use the date advance feature (up to 7 days) on the Postage tab of the Print dialog box. If you have missed the postmarked date, you can use the Date Correction feature. For more information, see Print a Date Correction.
- Postage and the Delivery Address.
...MORE Postage indicia contain coded information about the delivery address. US Postal Service requirements specify that the postage must match the delivery address. The USPS also requires the US domestic delivery address be verified before postage can be printed. One of the unique DAZzle features is Dial-A-ZIP, which looks up ZIP+4 Codes of US domestic delivery addresses. DAZzle automatically verifies US domestic addresses with the Dial-A-ZIP address verification system.
Note: You can print shipping labels for packages and large envelopes, provided that you print both the address and the postage on the label together.
- Labels for Postage on Envelopes.
...MORE To place labels with postage on standard business-size envelopes (or smaller), the US Postal Service requires special coated labels that can be sensed by their sorting machines.
Note: Instead of using a label, it is usually easier to use DAZzle to print the address and postage directly on your envelope.
- Pre-Printed Courtesy Reply Envelopes.
...MORE Pre-printed courtesy reply envelopes, such as those that typically come with bills, are usually already barcoded and FIM coded, have a delivery address, and perhaps even a postage box in the upper right corner. All of these things conflict with the way the envelope is printed for Internet postage.
Instead of using DAZzle to print onto pre-printed courtesy reply envelopes, it is recommended that you use:
• Stamps that you can print yourself using DYMO Stamps or Endicia Printable Postage. Your Endicia service plan includes Endicia Printable Postage, which prints only postage stamp labels onto DYMO LabelWriter printers.
• Regular postage stamps that you can buy from the USPS.
- About Sending Your Internet Postage Mail.
...MORE Mail with Internet Postage is a type of metered mail and when given the choice to place in a metered mail or stamped mail receptacle, you should place mail in a metered mail receptacle. However, you can deposit your mail in any collection box, and the Post Office will sort the mail. Packages (weighing 16 ounces and over) for delivery within the USA can be deposited in any mail receptacle, given to your carrier, or presented at a window at your Post Office.
