About the Special Contents Tab

Prior to shipping, the USPS requires that you declare certain content types for domestic mail, which you indicate on the Special Contents tab. You can access the Special Contents tab through Postage Options.

• Important! It is highly recommended that you read USPS Publication 52 - Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail.

On the Special Contents tab, you can select:

• None—if you are not shipping any of the following items—live animals, hazardous materials, or cremated remains.

• Fragile

• Perishable
• Live animals—if you intend to ship live animals, be sure to verify shipping requirements with the USPS. For details, see your USPS representative or the USPS publication about shipping perishable matter.
  • Day-Old Poultry—if you are shipping day-old poultry, then you must also select the Day-Old Poultry check box. A surcharge based on weight may apply, the amount of which is included in the postage that prints on the label. See also USPS publication about shipping perishable matter.
• Hazardous materials—restrictions apply. For more information, see the USPS publication about shipping hazardous and restricted matter.
• Cremated remains—For more information, see the USPS website topic about Cremated Remains.

• Important! After you print a label with any selected special content item, the selection resets to None.
