Set Up Printers
Depending on your setup, you may need to specify your label printer or sheet printer or both:
- Label printers usually print 4×6-inch labels, but Endicia Professional supports the following labels sizes:
- 4×6
- 4×5
- 4×4.5
- Note: Do not use labels smaller than 4×6 for Endicia Pay-on-Use Returns shipping labels!
- 4×6.75 Doctab
- 4×8 Doctab
- Note: Doctab labels have an additional section for reference information formatted similarly to those used by some private carriers.
Common types of label printers are thermal printers, such as Zebra or DYMO. Some label printers support high-speed printing options through the use of EPL2 or ZPL2 printer languages. For more information, see your printer documentation. Be sure that your label printer supports one of the preceding label sizes. (Many DYMO LabelWriter printers do not.) Almost all printers designed for printing shipping labels support Direct Thermal Labels, only a few support Thermal Transfer Labels, so be sure to buy the correct label stock.
- Sheet printers print onto letter-size sheets. Common types of sheet printers are laser and inkjet printers.
Steps
- Select File > Printer Setup.
- If you are using a label printer:
- In the Label Printer area, select the Windows Printer Driver from the list. If you do not see your printer on the list, you may need to install the Windows printer driver for your printer. Refer to your printer documentation.
- Select the label size and rotation.
- Select how your printer can receive data:
- Image: (Default) Most label printers work with the Image setting. If in doubt, select Image.
- EPL2: Some label printers support the EPL2 printer language, which Endicia Professional uses for high-speed printing. For more information, see your printer documentation.
- ZPL2: Some label printers support the ZPL2 printer language, which Endicia Professional uses for high-speed printing. For more information, see your printer documentation.
- If you are using a sheet printer:
- From the list in the Sheet Printer area, select the printer.
Optional: Select the Use this printer for all multi-page labels.
Because Endicia Professional uses integrated customs shipping labels, the sheet printer is rarely used except for generating the end-of-day SCAN form unless this option is selected. If you use the 2976-A long form, select this option to generate international and APO/FPO labels to the sheet printer.
- Click OK.
After you have set up your printer, you can test Endicia Professional.
